Going Small

“Going Small” is a book in pre-publication that will be available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble and your local bookseller by the summer of 2013 in both eBook and softcover versions.

What is going small?  Joyfully embracing human scale and pace, which sets the conditions so that people can thrive, not just survive in cities and towns that are virtually impossible to get around without a car.

Before industrialization (which has brought us many great advances, and many troubles), virtually everyone could get to what ever they needed, by walking less than a mile.  The simple act of walking around the town and neighborhood created bonds of friendship.  People knew their neighbors.  They were friends with the merchants they did business with but didn’t shop as a hobby.

Going Small begins with a life-changing proposal, and ends where you want it to end.  Based on a dozen “parva principles” which will allow you to benefit from the wisdom that sustained societies for hundreds of years, and still reap the benefits of living “in modernity,” the reader will come away with a new perspective on life, and for those with an interest, “marching orders” for how to make your community a more livable place.
